I’ve had this entry sitting in my “draft box” for over 3 weeks, but today I will bring attention to a subject near and dear to me:
Fixation with movement, both horizontal and vertical.
Though I’ve never been, nor is there anything particularly glamorous about Seattle, I often use this destination city as a symbol for impermanence. I don’t much like the idea of settling in places (both tangible and intangible), but I’ve realized that these situations do come up. Whether it be a living situation, a job, a reality, etc. Contrary to my previous post entitled “settled”, I don’t particularly value stillness. It makes me anxious and oh so uncertain. And, of course course, too much certainty makes me a bit uncertain. For instance, my mattress is almost too comfortable. It makes so much sense and is serving it’s intended purpose of providing me with uninterrupted sleep…but sometimes I sleep too comfortably. Hence a sense of mistrust has formed between my Serta and I.
So, I’ve come up with a sort of motto for myself and the group of people that would read this and agree with my thinking - “There’s always Seattle”. This just means that there is an exit and there is an alternative to every situation and every decision.
This is for you -the drugstore customer who buys three lipstick shades at a time because you aren’t confident that any of them are exactly the shade you’re seeking, and after many lesons learned, you’ve come to terms with the inevitible mixing of colors that will later take place in your community bathroom. Leases run up, promotions are offered, moving trucks travel interstate, and Revlon is always offering new shades… and if for more than a moment you feel defeated or stuck, just remember, there’s a world North, West, East, and South of you. There’s careers that you haven’t realized exist yet. Millions of people are waiting to know you as you move through your stages of life. Don’t dwell, do what makes sense and if it doesn’t make sense just know that you can always create a new option just as you’ve mixed “forever pink” and ”eternal rose” to meet your exceedingly high expectations.
Best of luck to all of you embarking on a new phase of your mind.
